Team Events:

**For all team events: The first climber must stop and be in position before the second climber can climb.**

 

 

Hurtman Rescue 

 1. Are you allowed to put your belt around the pole while the cutout is still closed as long as you don’t put a hook in the pole?

No, you cannot touch the pole until it is open. This is listed on number 6 in the event description. There will be a 2-point deduction for touching the pole before the cutout is open.

1. Can you use any size hot stick for the grounding?

All hot sticks must be 8 feet. Other sticks must be used within the manufacturer’s specs.

2. Can you throw the wire down to the ground with a “headache” if extra sticking is out of the new shoe?

 No, you can not. You must go by the General Rules. You have to use at least an 8 foot clamp stick.

1. What are the framing specs for the poles?

Crossarm will be framed in 9 inch hole and the neutral will be 6 foot from center of the arm. See photos.

 2. When you cover the primary, do you have to put a split blanket under the insulator before you tie and untie?

Yes. Please refer to General Rules.

3. Is floating the neutral and then sliding your primary belt over the clevis allowed?

No. The neutral is not allowed to be floated.

4. On the primary wire cover up, do you mean to cover both sides of the insulator of the phase you are working on? Or, both phases before any work is performed?

You only have to cover the phase you are working on. It’s simulated dead but not grounded.

5. Cover both sides of the insulator I’m working on?

No, just the one side that you will be on.

6. Do you have to cover both phases before the first climber changes out his insulator or just both sides of arm on his phase?

No, you only have to cover the side you are working on next to you.

7. If you’re covering the neutral from the ground with a long stick, can you wear leathers or do you have to wear rubbers?

No long sticks are allowed from ground for any coverup.

8. Can you sit the phase on the arm if you slide your guts together while you change out the insulator?

Yes and you only have to cover the side closest to you.

9. While the second climber is coming down, can the first climber run the stick up and rest it on the neutral as long as we don’t touch the cutout?

Yes, the climber can run the stick out but NO contact of anything till the second climber is off of the pole. That includes the neutral.

Pole Top Insulator Change Out

1. Are we pulling a new pole top pin and insulator up to us or simply taking the existing one off and moving to the opposite side?

You are just moving it to the opposite side. No new material except the tie and rubber grommet.

 

Crossarm/Cutout Relocation

Fused Cutout Relocation

1. When you are taking the source and load side hot line claps off, do you have to flip your stick around after opening your fuse to use your controlled finger or if you could just use the same finger to take them off as you would to open the fuse?

You need to use the stick correctly. Cannot use finger to take clamps off.

2. When you get done taking off your claps do you have to take your hand line to the top of the pole with you?

You can leave the handline at the neutral.

3. While doing the event do you have to replace the top and bottom of the cut existing stingers with new stringers.

No you don’t have to replace stingers.

4. While putting the hot line clamps back on, do you have to be below the neutral with your primary and secondary below the neutral?

Yes you do.

1. Can you have the crossarm lay across your belt and walk around the pole or do you have to stand in the half and move it?

Either way is fine.

 

Single Phase Recloser Bypass

Arrestor Change Out

1. During the prep time, can I make up the new arrestors with wire and attach hot line clamps?

Yes, you can make up arrestors in prep time.

2. When covering up the neutral and spool, is a split blank enough cover?

A host and blanket will be needed for proper cover up.

3. Is the copper on the top and bottom of the lightning arresters #4 or #6 copper?

Top of the arresters will be #6 and the bottom will be #4.

4. Can our material bag be hung on the arrester bracket after stingers are removed?

It can be hung by a meat hook or sling, once stingers are removed.

5. If something falls out of the bag while pulling up, can the judges put it back in the bag or does the man have to climb down?

There will be a 2-point deduction for dropping the item. The judge can run it back up.

6. Can you put copper on the arrestors before going up during the 5-minute setup time? Or does he have to put together while changing them out?

You can make up the arrestors in the 5-minute setup time.

7. Are you allowed to put your hot line clamps in your shotgun stick with your hands if you have hot gloves on?

Yes, as long as you maintain MAD.

8. It says rubber gloves only required for cover-up and stick work. Can we go to leather gloves after clamps are removed? If so, do rubbers have to be stored in a glove bag or just layed in material bag? And then we go bak to rubbers to put clamps back on and remove cover-up.

Yes, MAD must be maintained. Gloves must go back in glove bag.

9. Can we run the long stick up and cover up?:

No. Cover up needs to be installed from the pole.
